What may be required

As you can see, nothing special. Almost every home has everything you need, and buying tropical nuts during the season is not much of a problem.

Preparation of raw materials

Let's move on to how to make coconut oil at home. If you are doing it for the first time, it is better to limit yourself to one fruit. When you fill your hand a little, you can double the portion.

  • First you need to drain the milk from the nut. To do this, you need to make several holes in it using an awl. Pour out the milk, it is very tasty and sweet, you can enjoy it right away. If you feel a grassy taste, it means the nut is green, and the oil will not be as aromatic and healthy as it could be.
  • After this, the coconut can be chopped or sawn into two parts. Using a knife or spoon, carefully separate the pulp from the shell. Collect it in a clean container. Try to get rid of the outer shell as well.
  • The pulp must be finely chopped. This can be done using a blender or grater.

Cracking a nut is not an easy job. Therefore, it is best to attract men for this. This work can also be done with a hammer, after wrapping the nut in a towel. You can skip the stage of peeling the coconut shell, especially if it crumbled heavily during the cracking process. It is not so easy to clean small fragments from the pulp, but it is not particularly necessary. The shell also contains many useful substances.

Working with coconut meat

Now let's move on to how to make coconut oil. First you need to grind the pulp. You can add a little water to make the mixture less sticky. If you took a coconut with a shell, then it is better to use a food processor, since it is very hard.

After this, the crushed pulp must be transferred to a suitable pan. It needs to be filled with hot water, but not boiling water. Too high a temperature can kill all the beneficial properties of coconut. The water should cover the crushed mass by about two fingers. Leave to cool at room temperature.

Oil collection period

After cooling, you need to put the pan in the refrigerator. It is best to leave it overnight as it takes time for the oil to release and collect on the surface. Usually housewives are worried for the first time about how to make coconut oil at home. But after trying this method, they understand that in practice everything is much simpler. By morning, a dense crust will form on the surface, which can be carefully removed.

Finishing touch

In principle, you can already use it. But there is one more important point - the safety of the product. Therefore, transfer the finished oil into a earthenware or metal container and place it in a water bath. It is recommended to keep it only as long as it takes to convert it into liquid. But do not boil, so as not to destroy the beneficial compounds. The resulting oil should be filtered. This process will completely remove the chips and is also necessary for pasteurization. Now you know how to make your own coconut oil.

Storage conditions

This is also an important point that needs to be paid special attention to. Often, those who complain of an allergic reaction due to the use of oil do not even realize that, unwittingly, they violated the storage rules, which led to such consequences.

But in defense of this method, we can say that the chips are a food product. That is, fears are most likely unnecessary. But when choosing a product, you need to pay attention to the fact that the composition does not contain foreign additives, salt and sugar.

I tried real coconut oil in Thailand, and since then I have considered it the best remedy for my dry skin. We traveled with backpacks, so we brought very little home with us. The oil quickly ran out, I was upset, but I didn’t buy it in local stores. Quite expensive and there is no guarantee that it is 100% natural. A common practice is to mix in cheaper oils, such as rapeseed.

I tried to make it at home and it worked! In fact, everything turned out to be very simple.

How to choose a coconut?

It's easy to come across old and rotten coconut in supermarkets, even if it looks good on the outside. Pay attention to two points:

    • Shake the nut - there should be some sound of water inside. If there are no sounds, definitely choose another one.
    • Another important sign of a tasty and fresh coconut is that the “eyes” should not be too dark, much less black. The ideal color is brown, slightly darker than the color of the skin itself. For example, like mine:

How to cut a coconut?

I decided to take advantage of the experience of YouTubers and watched a couple of videos of the same type in the style of “Opening a Coconut in 20 SECONDS.” I believed that it was very simple and went for a knife.

The first step is really simple - drain the coconut water. To do this, you need to choose from three eyes the one that can be easily pierced with a knife or screwdriver. It is usually closest to the center. Try all 3 and easily determine the one you need.

Drain the water and strain through a cotton cloth.

At this point, be sure to try it. It should be sweet, pleasant and without a pungent odor. If this is not the case, it is better to take another nut.

In absolutely all videos, the coconut immediately showed a large crack. I don’t know why, but this didn’t happen to me! More precisely, it happened, but not so quickly.

I knocked on it for about 10 minutes, with breaks out of pity for the neighbors and changing weapons.

The coconut gave in to the hammer and I saw a crack.

How to prepare butter?

The fruit must be cut and the soft skin peeled with a knife or vegetable peeler.

Let's look inside. There shouldn't be any weird mucus or dark spots. Only white flesh. By the way, it doesn’t hurt to rinse it under running water.

Cut into pieces and place in a blender.

I hope yours is powerful?

Add slightly warmed coconut water. We grind.

Add plain warm water until it covers the pulp.

Leave for 10-15 minutes.

Grind well again with a blender. The consistency will not be smooth like puree, because... the pulp is very fibrous. But you should get coconut “porridge” with small shavings. It needs to be strained well and squeezed out properly.

Pour the resulting liquid into a container and place it in the refrigerator for 3-4 hours. It's better to take something transparent so you can immediately see what happens.

When the mixture sits, the purest coconut oil will harden and rise to the top.

Make 2 holes with a wooden stick and drain off the excess.

Ready! You can store this coconut oil for 2 weeks in the refrigerator.

How to use?

Because This is the purest cold-pressed coconut oil, it is suitable not only for cosmetic purposes, but also for food - for frying (but never fry until black and “charcoal” anyway!) or simply adding to any recipe as a replacement for other oil.

What to do with the cake?

I had quite a lot of it left, and I decided to make coconut flour from it. To do this, dry the squeezed shavings in a slightly warm, slightly open oven, and then grind them in a coffee grinder. Flour can be used for any muffins, pancakes, etc.

If you don't grind it, you'll just end up with dry coconut shavings.

Another option is to make bounty candies from raw cake according to any recipe, but then add a little coconut oil so that it is not dry.

So, from 1 pc. coconut for 55 rub. I managed:

      • 120g coconut oil
      • 60g coconut flour (but it is very light, and in terms of volume it is quite a lot)

Have a good day,
Vika

I would like to dedicate this review to my favorite exotic nut - coconut.

The love began in childhood, when I first tried a bounty and rafaelki bar)

Then I simply adored everything that had coconut in it: perfumes, cooking, etc.

I really liked the aroma and more and more often I bought caring cosmetics (soaps, shampoos, gels) that contained this exciting smell.

I became acquainted with coconut oil only a few years ago and, having appreciated its properties, I actively use it for cosmetic purposes (skin and hair care).

Until recently, I always bought ready-made, but inspired by the reviews of the girls who described in detail how to prepare it at home, I decided to try it myself. And guess what? I managed!

When choosing a coconut, should pay attention to its appearance: so as not to be split, it was heavy enough. I usually pick it up and shake it to hear the coconut milk gurgling. It must be there.

In the store where I buy this nut, it is sold individually and costs about 30 UAH.

Opening a coconut is not so difficult, but before opening it, you need to remove the milk.

There are 3 black pits/dents on one side. Just in one of them you can drill a hole and pour the contents into the vessel.

Depending on the size, shape and other features (freshness), the amount of coconut milk may vary. On average it is 100-200 ml. At least that's what I got.

Milk is a liquid, like water, only slightly cloudy, has a very pleasant aroma and sweetish taste.

What to do with him? Coconut milk is very healthy and contains a whole range of vitamins and minerals. Usually I drink it right away, but sometimes I use it to laminate my hair.

To open a coconut, I take a large knife and a hammer. I file a little in the center and, placing the knife along the cut, hit it with a hammer. As a result, after several knocks, the coconut splits.

As soon as the nut is split into two halves, you can enjoy the most delicate aroma!

I find it convenient to cut it with a knife. It separates from its shell/"shell" without any problems.

The first time I tried to make coconut oil, I made several mistakes and now I don’t repeat them.

If you are going to grate, then you need to cut the slices as large as possible to make grating more convenient.

Initially, I tried to do this with a blender, but due to the fact that I had large, small chips, it could not make it and the first attempt failed.

I read that the pulp can be beaten in a blender along with water and then left to settle, but in the end it didn’t work out for me, and most likely because of the coarse grinding.

After squeezing out the cake and pouring the resulting “milk” into a container, as expected, I put it in the refrigerator, but only a light oily film formed on the surface and that’s it, there was no oil (

Later I grated the coconut and the experiment was always crowned with success.

How I make coconut oil.

If you are trying for the first time and are afraid that it will not work, then use half the coconut pulp.

Grind thoroughly on a fine grater, and pour the shavings into a jar (or another vessel) and fill with hot water (40 degrees). After this, let it brew for at least 2-3 hours (or even better, 4) at room temperature, stirring occasionally. The water together with the shavings turns into milk.

After the specified time has passed, filter everything through cheesecloth.

Place the resulting white liquid in the refrigerator for 12-15 hours. After about half an hour, a cap forms on the surface and you can already see that it is oil. It rises to the top very quickly and freezes.

You can make a scrub from the remaining shavings so that the good stuff doesn’t go to waste.

For example, if I put a jar in the refrigerator at 7-8 pm, then at 9-10 am the oil is ready and can be taken out.

When you create something with your own hands, there is no limit to joy!

After carefully draining the water, the resulting puck can be placed in a special container. If you melt the butter a little in a water bath and pour it into a jar, it will take on an infused form.

And as a result, I got real coconut oil, fragrant, snow-white in color, in no way inferior to store-bought. I store it in the refrigerator and use it wherever possible.

The warmth of the skin immediately melts and releases an amazing aroma!

Usage

Many people complain that it dries out their hair, but if I apply it to damp hair, I don’t experience such nuances. After it, the hair is smooth, shiny and more well-groomed.

Also coconut oil perfectly cares for the skin. It intensively nourishes, softens and moisturizes.

I use it most often on my hands and body; I’m afraid to use it on my face so as not to clog my pores.

Coconut oil can completely replace any balm and give your lips comfort.

Nails with cuticles will also be happy with it.

In the summer season it Helps you get a beautiful tan.

During pregnancy can be used for the prevention of stretch marks.
